Frequently asked questions
What is moissanite?
Moissanite is a gemstone made of silicon carbide. It was discovered in 1893 by the French chemist Henri Moissan in a meteorite crater in Arizona. Natural moissanite is extremely rare, so all moissanite used in jewellery today is created in a laboratory.
Moissanite is not an imitation of another stone. It is a gemstone in its own right, with its own properties: high hardness, a high refractive index and strong brilliance.
Is LunNoire moissanite GRA certified?
Yes. Every LunNoire moissanite comes with a GRA certificate. The certificate documents the stone's characteristics, including colour grade, clarity, cut and size. It is included in the box with your jewellery.
How does moissanite compare to diamond?
They are two different gemstones. Diamond is made of carbon, moissanite of silicon carbide.
- Hardness: moissanite 9.25 on the Mohs scale, diamond 10.
- Refractive index: moissanite 2.65–2.69, diamond 2.42.
- Dispersion: moissanite 0.104, diamond 0.044. This means moissanite shows more rainbow-coloured flashes of light, especially in larger stones and in daylight.
Our stones are colour grade DEF, meaning colourless.
Can moissanite be worn every day?
Yes. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale, moissanite is one of the hardest gemstones used in jewellery. It stands up well to everyday wear, and the stone's colour and brilliance do not change over time.
What metal is the jewellery made of?
Our jewellery is made of 925 sterling silver with white gold plating. Some rings can be made in gold or platinum on request. Contact us at hello@lunnoire.com. Made-to-order pieces are not covered by the right of withdrawal.
How do I care for my jewellery?
Take your jewellery off for exercise, swimming and cleaning, and before applying perfume or lotion. Clean the stone with lukewarm water, a little mild soap and a soft toothbrush, then dry it with a soft cloth. Store each piece separately in its box to avoid scratches.
The plating can wear over time with daily use and can be renewed by a goldsmith.
How do I find my ring size?
Measure the circumference of your finger in millimetres with a tape measure or a strip of paper. The circumference equals the EU size, for example 54 mm = size 54. Measure in the afternoon, when fingers are at their largest. If you are between two sizes, choose the larger one. Most of our rings are available in EU 49–58.
How do delivery and returns work?
We ship your order within 1–3 business days. Delivery takes 3–7 business days within Sweden and 5–10 business days within the EU. Shipping is free within Sweden on orders over 499 SEK.
You have a 30-day return period on unworn jewellery in its original packaging with the certificate included. Made-to-order and resized pieces are excluded. Read more about delivery and returns.
